"Alfalfa's"
restaurant menu

Once upon a time in eastern Pennsylvania,
about 10 miles northwest of Philadelphia in a town called Lansdale,
on a gentle winding interstate designated Route 202, was a restaurant
named in honor of our hero. The establishment is no longer extant,
sorry to say, and we have not been able to uncover anything of substance
about it (we found the menu on an online auction site). Judging
from the prices and the design of the menu itself, the item seems
to be of the early 80's.

The
fare offered by Alfalfa's included "Alfalfa's Potatoes"
(65 cents) a cold sandwich called "Alfalfa's Delight"
(spinach, mushrooms, cucumbers, onions, egg slices and dressing)
for $2.95, and "Alfalfa's Famous Baked Onion Soup" for
$1.50 (what, no soap-filled cream puffs??) Alfalfa's also offered
a wide variety of open faced hot melts, each named after a Little
Rascals character (see below).

It
would be interesting to find out whether the owner/operators of
Alfalfa's bothered to check with the appropriate copyright holders
at the time to utilize Alfalfa's image and the names of other Little
Rascals characters in a for-profit venture, and whether the fact
they are no longer around has anything to do with this subject.
If
anyone reading this Internet appreciation was involved with Alfalfa's
restaurant, or was a patron, please contact
us to share memories or information with Alfalfa's fans.
