Glove Taps

Butch, a new neighborhood tough-guy, moves into town with his sidekick Woim (Tommy Bond and Sid Kibrick, their first appearances in the roles that would make them both legend). Immediately, Butch challenges the toughest guy in school to a fight to demonstrate his sovereignty. Alfalfa inadvertently is "volunteered", and, encouraged by Spanky, he reluctantly begins training. His lack of boxing prowess is obvious from the start, but Spanky arranges for Buckwheat to "take a dive" during a sparring session, giving Alfalfa some badly-needed confidence. He is so sure of himself, in fact, that he gives us our first look—or, more appropriately, listen—to his now-famous Tarzan yell.

During the long-awaited fight, Butch makes short work of Alfalfa until Porky and Buckwheat, from a concealed location, come to the rescue with conking Butch on the head with a boxing glove on a the end of a long pole. The episode ends with another spirited Tarzan yell from our conquering hero.
