Rare
1937 Alfalfa mask ("Just Call Me Alfalfa")
4alfalfa.com
has obtained (courtesy Steve Ludwig, with additional thanks to Paul
Goresh) a rare piece of Alfalfa memorabilia: a 1937 "Alfalfa
mask" that contains an image of a smiling Alfalfa with a miniature
porkpie hat on the front side; and on the back, a potpourri of Alfalfa
biographical information. Among the tidbits:
A
combination geography lesson/word puzzle based on a quiz involving
Alfalfa's birthplace of Paris, Illinois
Two "connect the dots" puzzles, one picturing a
cowboy hat, the other a guitar (described as "Alfalfa's favorite
musical instrument")
A gallery of Alfalfa facial expressions ("Surprise",
"Lets' Go!" and "Crooning"), accompanied by
the caption "Alfalfa is an expert at making facial expressions.
Here are some of his favorite ones. Try them yourself."
A kind of comic strip called "Singing My Way to Hollywood",
in the form of a piece of film, that summarizes Alfalfa's young
life and how he came to be in the Little Rascals.
At
the top of this side of the mask is the heading "Just Call
Me Alfalfa/ I Do the Singing for 'Our Gang' ".
This
is a fascinating piece of Alfalfa memorabilia that we are happy
to share with visitors to 4alfalfa.com. See below for images and
details.
